What is Vehicle Transmission?
A vehicles transmission system is an essential aspect of the vehicle. Without it the vehicle would not be able to move. So, what is vehicle transmission and how does it work?
How Does a Cars Transmission Work?
The term transmission usually refers to the entire system made up of a number of essential components that enables a vehicle to move. A vehicle’s transmission system’s job is to send power to the wheels at the speed dictated by the action of pressure applied to the accelerator. The clutch is the first stage of the transmission. It enables gears to be engaged. When you push the clutch down it disengages the transmission system from the engine. When you select gear and drive, the clutch then engages the transmission to the engine and power is sent from the engine via the gearbox to the wheels through the drivetrain.
There are many elements that make up a cars transmission system. They inlclude the following:
- Clutch
- Gearbox
- Propeller shaft
- Universal joints
- Drive shaft
- Differential
- Axles
What is the Difference Between Manual and Automatic Gearboxes?
A manual gearbox will require the driver to manually select and engage the gears. An automatic gearbox automatically selects and engages the gears.
